How to Draw A Cartoon Dress for a special occasion
Learn how to draw a simple cartoon dress using this easy tutorial in just six steps! Illustrating a dress is not an easy task. Creating the perfect texture, the perfect highlights and the perfect shadows can become a nightmare. The whole object needs to look realistic and adding too much details can be confusing and hard to read.
On the other hand, simplicity is also tricky if lines are not placed properly. I will show you how to draw a simple red dress using only six easy steps. Step 1
Great! First, let's sketch the dress using simple red lines. Most of the object is made from long curved lines except for the belt, which is drawn using rectangular shapes. For the outlines, you can select a dark red color.
Step 2
Next, add some plain colors. The whole dress must be red (or you can select a different color if you prefer). The belt is darker and inside this one, the smaller rectangle must be black. Make sure that all lines are visible, but not too dark either.
Step 3
Using the gradient fill tool, you can now add a second color to all shapes to create some depth. The bottom of the dress can be darker while the top is slightly brighter. Just above the belt, you can also create a darker area like shown below.
Step 4
Time to create new shapes that are used to illustrate some shadows. These new shapes are filled with a darker red color and are also slightly transparent (otherwise the effect would be too intense). The goal is to end up with something subtle, but effective.
Step 5
In this step, you must now draw additional white shapes to create some highlights. The mix of darker and lighter shapes is crucial to give more depth and volume to the illustration.
The result? A simple cartoon dress drawn in six easy steps!
